Our Identity
We, the Southern California District Council of the Assemblies of God, are one of approximately fifty-six geographical and non-geographical language districts, including Hispanic Portuguese, German, and Korean, that comprise the
General Council of the Assemblies of God (USA), a Pentecostal denomination with over 25 million members and adherents world-wide and nearly three million in the United States. Organizationally, District Council offices occupy a middle position between the denomination's national offices, located in Springfield, Missouri, and the approximately 12,000 local Assemblies of God churches in the United States.
The Southern California District Council, formed in 1919, and currently headquartered in Irvine, California, includes:
An area encompassing San Simeon, Fresno, and Bishop, south to the Mexican border;
- Over 440 churches, approximately 120,000 members and adherents, and over 1,400 credentialed ministers;
- Three executive officers elected at the annual district council meeting;
- Six executive and eighteen sectional presbyters, also elected;
- Six appointed area directors who assist in anglo and ethnic churches; and
- Functional departments that specialize in support ministries of the local church.
