Gordon Houston

Gordon Houston comes to District Leadership after serving 22 years at San Jacinto Assembly of God, the last 18 years as its Lead Pastor.  During his pastoral tenure, the congregation of San Jacinto has grown from 150 to over 1400 with a budget of over $2 million and over 40 staff and employees.

A creative leader, Gordon developed several significant programs within the church, including:

  • Internship Program – for the training and developing of ministers and pastors
  • Get Out of Debt (GOD) program – for the paying off of consumer debt and education for staying debt free
  • Single Moms Program – to provide monthly child support to single moms within the congregation

Gordon’s vision for training strong leaders birthed the Higher Calling Ministry Institute (HCMI) in conjunction with Global University for the purpose of equipping, training, and developing ministers and pastors.  He also had great impact in the community through We Care San Jacinto Valley, a nationwide pilot program providing tutoring and parenting programs.

Gordon was awarded the honor of Hometown Hero in the City of San Jacinto. Additional community activities have included:

  • Creator/Developer of Maximum Impact Business Leaders Group, a community Bible study to impact marketplace leaders and business owners
  • Established San Jacinto High School Baccalaureate Services to provide atmosphere where national speakers challenge graduates
  • City of San Jacinto Planning Commissioner
  • San Jacinto High School football coach and chaplain
  • Police Activities League Board Member
  • Police & Fire Department Chaplain
  • San Jacinto City Oversight Panel

His leadership among the SoCal AG family includes:

  • Executive Presbyter Region IV
  • Sectional Presbyter - Desert
  • Vanguard University Board of Trustees

Gordon has spoken nationally on church leadership and city transformation, including at Focus on the Family, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and the Wisconsin-Northern Michigan Assemblies of God. San Jacinto Assembly was featured by the General Council of the Assemblies of God on “A Caring Community.”


Family Life:

Gordon and Nonda have been married for 28 years and have four adult children- Gordon, Josh, Scott and Angelique.


Portfolio

  • Oversight of the financial administration of the Southern California District Council
  • District designee as Corporate Secretary
  • Oversight and direction to the SoCal School Of Ministry and all of its extensions
  • Overseer and representative for legal liabilities in all District matters
  • Responsible for the updating and maintaining of the ministerial and church files
  • Administrative oversight for all things relating to Ministerial Credentials
  • Operate as the Chair of the “Divorce / Remarriage / Pre-conversion / Annulment” Committee
  • District Office Manager, Personnel Director and Human Resources Administrator
  • Overseer of all insurance matters for the District and its corporate subsidiaries
  • Oversight of all District Events and Event Coordinator
  • Administrative oversight and direction of:
    • Bethel Towers
    • Property and Loans Committee
    • Pinecrest Christian Conference Center
    • Media and Technology issues related to the SoCal District Council
  • Active field ministry including the helping of pastors, boards, and churches maintain good accounting systems, proper corporate documents, files and proper insurance protection
  • Involvement in preaching ministry as assigned or requested
  • Providing counseling to ministers and their families as assigned by the Superintendent
  • Presiding over business meetings for local churches and board meetings as requested or assigned
  • Participating in out-of-district ministry as requested, including mission trips and General Council assignments
  • Involvement in Leadership Forums as requested or assigned
  • Participating in District committees as assigned by the Superintendent
  • Writing for periodicals and various publications as assigned or requested
  • Other roles as determined by the Superintendent
  • Serve as the chair of the Executive Committee of Teen Challenge
