Intercultural Ministries

Multi-ethnic, multi-cultural, and multi-lingual describes the culture of California, and Southern California more specifically. The 2000 census revealed for the first time that California is the first significant state with no racial majority.

  • Non-Hispanic whites comprise 46.7% of California’s population.
  • Hispanics account for 32.4%
  • Asians account for 10.9%
  • African Americans 6.7%
  • 3.3%, various nationalities and ethnicities.
  • One in four residents of California was born outside of the U.S.
  • One in five speaks a language other than English when at home.
  • In Los Angeles, 200 languages or dialects are spoken.

The Vision and Mission of the Department of Intercultural Ministries is to be intentionally missional. The church must always be seeking God’s plan, God’s vision, and God’s purposes. The church facilitates and fulfills the mission of God. We believe that God’s vision is best described in Revelation 7:9-10, “After this I had a vision of a great multitude, which no one could count, from every nation, race, people, and tongue. They stood before the throne and before the Lamb, wearing white robes and holding palm branches in their hands. They cried out in a loud voice: ‘Salvation comes from our God, who is seated on the throne and from the Lamb’”.

The Department of Intercultural Ministries seeks to build bridges and areas of understanding between various ethnic faith communities, recognizing that cultural diversity is a part of God’s plan for creation in general, and the church in particular.
