Russ Peavy

Russ was born in Maywood, California, July 15th, 1947. Russ is a third generation Pentecostal, whose grandparents came to Christ through the preaching and influence of Aimee Semple McPherson.

Russ was raised in the Pentecostal tradition in Southern California. Spiritually nurtured at Bell Gardens Full Gospel Assembly of God, he was given an opportunity to develop a music gift and has since used singing and preaching to take him to many countries for ministry.

Russ is a graduate of Southern California College (now Vanguard University of Southern California) B.A. 1970; Fuller Theological Seminary, M.A. 1984; Post-graduate studies at Assemblies of God Theological Seminary, 2000-2005.

Russ has served several congregations as Minister of Music, Singles, and Associate Minister. He has taught at:

  • Capital Bible College, Sacramento, California, 1986-1990; 2000-2007.
  • South Pacific Bible College, Suva, Fiji Islands, 1992-1998.

Russ has two children, Nathan Russell, 24, and Melissa Marie Cole, 22. Both reside in the Sacramento area.

Russ and his family transferred from the Division of Foreign Missions to U.S. Missions in 2000, after serving as foreign missions to the Islands of Fiji from 1990-1998.

In October, 2000, Russ and his family began serving the Northern California-Nevada District of the Assemblies of God as Directors of Intercultural Ministries. Russ net-worked and consulted with nearly 100 ethno-linguistic churches through-out Northern California. Working with such diverse faith communities as Fijian, Tongan, Samoan, Hispanic, Asian, Filipino, Russian, Ukrainian, East Indian, African, Persian, and Arabic, Russ has earned the respect of ethnic pastors and leaders.

In March of 2009, Russ assumed the position of Intercultural Ministries Director of The Southern California District of the Assemblies of God. His focus and the thrust of this department are to target non-Anglo and non-Hispanic communities with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Russ assists in church planting, immigration challenges, and serving as a friend-consultant to nearly sixty-six ethno-linguistic churches.
